Irvine man fined for threatening partner and trying to grab knife – Irvine Times

James Segi, 38, of Gilbertfield Place, previously pleaded guilty to one charge and appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court for sentencing on Monday, January 20.

He admitted attending a Herbertson Crescent address in the city on July 30 last year and forcing his way in.

He also shouted, swore, made abusive remarks and made threats at his partner before taking possession of her phone and trying to get hold of a knife.

Segi also admitted to throwing a bottle containing liquid, causing the bottle to hit a mirror and shatter.

In mitigation, defense barrister Peter Murray told the court Segi had a “chronic difficulty with alcohol abuse”.

He added: “It affected his work life, his home life and his relationship with his family.

“He has tried to deal with it over the years and has had periods of sobriety.

“His partner told the social worker that their relationship was not characterized by domestic violence.

“Everything he does is fueled by drink, and the target of his rage that day just happened to be his partner.”

Sheriff Morag Fraser fined Seggie a total of £470, which will be paid at a rate of £60 per month.
