The Provider of Communication Infrastructure Zayo has announced plans to build more than 5,000 miles of optical long -distance optical routes to meet the growing AI load requirements. This extension is in addition to more than 5,000 miles of optical routes that the company has already built in the last five years. “Zayo’s investment will be crucial to preventing a potential pass in the US, as the capacity of an AI data center is expected to increase 2-6 times over the next five years,” Rabbit said in a statement of January 21, 2025.

Strengthe the connectivity of AI Data Center

The new routes include: Chicago to Columbus; Las Vegas to Rino, Nevada; Atlanta to Ashburn, Virginia; Minneapolis to Chicago; and Columbus to Indianapolis.
Routes for redevelopment include: Denver to Dallas; Denver to Omaha next to Chicago; Denver to Salt Lake City; Salt Lake City to Rino; Dallas to Atlanta; Columbus to Ashburn; and Phoenix to Tuson.
Zayo stressed that these routes will maintain direct, low latency and scales between key data centers and predicted growth areas.

“Maintaining the pace with the next AI growth wave will require new long -distance networks to allow the needs of both existing and emerging markets of AI data centers. 400g-activated networks
Zayo’s network in North America covers 16.5 million optical miles, with 700,000 optical miles and 14 new 400g activated wavelength routes added last year. The company also reached Petabit active Waves services in 2024 and said it expects its network in North America to be fully activated to 400g by the end of this year.
