Santa Fe, NM (KRQE)-Albacuki returned the first place in the annual list of Moviemaker magazine for “Best Places to Live and Work As a Director-Big Cities”.
Albakarki won first place among the big cities for the seventh consecutive year, while in the category of small cities Santa Fe again topped the list, and Las Crusece ranks eighth in the ranking this year.

“As a person who returned to New Mexico after years of working in the California film industry, I can personally certify the incredible opportunities and quality of life that our state offers to directors,” said Steve Graham, director of New Mexico’s Film Office, in a news message. “Our diverse locations, qualified workforce and competitive film incentives continue to attract productions of all scale. This recognition from Moviemaker magazine emphasizes what many of us already know: New Mexico is just the best place to live and work as a director. “
Top 10 of the big cities for 2025:
Moviemaker describes Albackeri as a “lively production schedule, a rich team base, excellent tax loans, accessibility, light traffic, rich natural beauty and, above all, a commitment to develop the film industry.”
The magazine also emphasizes some of the big productions filmed in the city, such as Ari Astar’s “Edigton”, “Sweetheart, Don’t” by Ethan Cohen and Trisha Cook and a new Jordan Peel movie.
Last year, Duke City won second place in the category of the largest cities in North America. In 2023, Albakarki ranked 5th, and had previously ranked first for four years, from 2019 to 2022.
As for the list of smaller cities, Santa Fe again secured the first place for the third consecutive year. LAS CRESS also has been on the list for the third consecutive year, with this time in 8th place.

Moviemaker has directed the spotlight to the “first -class” facilities of Santa Fe, including indoor and outdoor shooting. The magazine also noted the growing movie scene of Las Cructions and its attractive film stimuli.
