Obituary
Betty E. Mander died peacefully on January 21, 2025 at the age of 88 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born in the small town of Thorpe, Wisconsin, Betty is the daughter of Stanley and Mary Neiman. She grew up on a dairy farm, graduated from Thorpe High School in 1954 and later left Thorpe to pursue a career as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. She had a successful career as an office manager for Tidewater emergency doctors.
Betty was a strong life -filled woman – generous, bold and fun; She was known for her wit. She loved to sing and dance, even participating in several choirs. She was a proud “cheesehead” and all her life a fan of Green Bay Packers. Betty also had a deep love for the beach. One of her greatest joys was to spend time in OBX with her family. She loved all kinds of family gatherings. Her kindness, generous spirit and empathy had no boundaries. She was a friend of everyone she met, always offered a hand and a good word.
She leaves her three daughters to keep her memory: Mary Hoffman (James); Elizabeth Beth Snyder (Jeffrey Schubert); and Patricia Pat Evans; Her four grandchildren: Magan Russell (Joel); Matthew Hoffman (Christie); Zakari Snyder; And Stephanie Snyder. She also survived her daughter-in-law, Fay Rodriguez and Lavon Neyman and her best friend in 81 years, Sylvia Sislate. Betty was preceded by the death of her parents, Stanley and Mary Nieman, eleven brothers and sisters, and her husband William “Bill” Mander.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in the Hollomon-Brown Great Neck chapel in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Instead of flowers, you can make donations in memory of Betty to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Betty will miss a lot of all who knew her, but her spirit and warmth will live in the hearts of her family and friends.
