A County Durham town is to host a Christmas market following the success of recently introduced farmers’ markets.
Last month, Baccanelia introduced a farmers’ market in Consett, which attracted around 2,000 visitors and a wave of positive comments.
More than 60 stalls have signed up for the Christmas market, which will take place across the city on November 30. Stalls will be spread across Middle Street, the Derwent Centre, the Heart and Heritage building on John Street and the Masonic Hall.
At the Christmas market, Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit a grotto in the Masonic Hall, while local schoolchildren will entertain visitors with carols in Middle Street.
These children will also create holiday artwork that will be displayed in the Heart Building.
Local singer Charlotte Foreman is also scheduled to perform holiday classics starting at 1 p.m.
A variety of stalls will offer fresh produce, bread, cheese, jams, honey, lutenice, beer, cider, crafts and Christmas gifts, along with a popular tarot card reader.
Fundraising for a local toy appeal will also be held with a raffle and gift tag tree.
The market day will end with a litter pick, ensuring the streets remain clean and tidy.
