Lincoln-Governor Jim Pilen Friday ordered state agencies to take steps to repress President Donald Trump’s immigration to say to the State Nebraska Patrol and prison leaders to warn federal staff of suspected immigration violators.
The enforcement order establishes the program for the implementation of the Nebraska Federal Immigration Policy and sets a deadline for May 31 to meet all the requirements set by Pileen to comply with Trump’s executive orders on January 20.
“This document demonstrates the allegation of Nebraska with the new federal immigration policy and provides guidance to state agencies for the implementation of provisions contained in the recently issued executive orders of the President,” Missiv said.
ACLU shoots back
ACLU NEBRASKA immediately fired, noting that Pilillen’s order refers to several Trump executives, which include a language relating to undocumented immigrants as part of an “invasion”.
The civil rights organization said there was a noise in media coverage that relayed the fears of the unbrasted from the occurrence of repression and what could mean for communities and families throughout the country.
Earlier this week, police chiefs in the two largest cities of Nebraska said they did not know about planned immigration implementation actions coming to their areas and tried to assure residents that local officials would not be actively looking for people based on the basis of immigration status.
“The governor’s support for the Extreme Immigration Program of the current administration is shameful,” says Mindy Rush Chipman, CEO of ACLU NEBRASKA. “As a reminder, we are talking about an administration that has moved to refuse Birthright citizenship to babies and to ignore the proper process, both of which are non -constitutional actions that ACLU is already a challenge in the courts.”
Rush Chipman said it was vital that everyone covered by the executive order to understand “not cancel their technique [the state’s] Legal obligations, including providing fair and non -discriminatory treatment. “
She issued her own attention: “If employees cross the legal lines to follow this order, we will see them in court.”
Nebraska Appleseed is one of the other groups that also reacted, issuing a statement called Pillen’s order “contrary to Nebraska’s values of dignity, justice, respect and justice.”
“We do not want to see communities and families torn while waiting to work through long and complex immigration processes, and we certainly do not want our state and local safety resources to be used in this way,” said Appleseed CEO Becky Gould.
Pileen’s executive order acknowledges that the main responsibility for the implementation of immigration laws is the federal government. But it is said that countries, cities, cities have “decisive roles” in the fight against illegal immigration, “and protect our citizens.”
Patrol, close, agencies
According to the executive order of Pileen, the State Patrol and the Ministry of Criminal Services will:
- Completely cooperating with the efforts of US Departments of Justice and Homeland Security and subsidiaries in the implementation of existing federal immigration laws.
- Contact these federal authorities when the current criminal investigation leads to a person’s detention “when there is a reasonable suspicion” that immigration laws have been violated.
- Notify the immigration and application of customs when such an individual must be released from custody – and keep that person in custody in order to facilitate the transfer of the requesting authority.
Immigrants under temporary protection of a quick deportment place according to Trump’s policy
For all state departments and agencies, the governor directs them to:
- View their policies and practices to provide support for federal immigration laws, including Trump’s orders on January 20: Protection of the American people from invasionProviding our borders and declaring a national emergency situation at the southern border.
- Cooperation with the criminal detention of ICE and the national programs for operational operations aimed at undocumented people who have criminal files and pose a threat to public safety.
For all Nebraska agencies with a law enforcement authority or imprisonment:
- Consider official procedures and agreements to support the Federal Government in the implementation of the Immigration Act, including Agreements under Section 287 (g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. This section authorizes ICE to delegate to state and local authorities in the authorities to perform certain functions for the implementation of immigration.
