The Las Vegas Raiders hit reset once again as the franchise brought in a new general manager and head coach. However, the circumstances surrounding the hiring of Pete Carroll as the next Raider coach brought some negativity from media personalities.
In a breakdown of The Odd Couple with Kelvin Washington and Rob Parker, the two had some choice words for the Raiders franchise after signing Carroll, who is poised to be the NFL’s oldest head coach in 2025.
“All you do is get a pair of old slippers with holes in the bottom because they’re comfortable. Because you know what they look like and feel like,” Parker said. “He’s not the future, he’s the past! The Raiders just hired a dinosaur. Fred Flintstone was hired with the Raiders. Is that what we’re doing moving forward?”
The Raiders wanted a head coach with experience and they certainly got one. However, with analysts already blasting the signing as more of a step back, what will Raider Nation think if this upcoming season parallels the last?
Keeping a Super Bowl head coach in Carroll is a step up from what they had with Antonio Pierce. After seeing how Pierce handled high-leverage situations, he should bring comfort to fans knowing that Carroll has experience in situations where Pierce buckled.
“I feel bad for Pete Carroll. By all accounts, Carroll is in amazing shape, he looks great, he’s energized. Boy, he’s going to age like how presidents go into the White House and go out. Instead of 75 next year, he’ll be 80 years old and messing with the Raiders,” Washington said.
Carroll doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of coaching a team that has struggled. While the franchise may not make the playoffs given the roster they have right now, there’s a world where Carroll’s 2-year Las Vegas send off Tenure Raiders Back to the promise land.
The Raiders splash is done with Carol As the new captain of the ship, but he can’t all rest on the captain, his crew, in this case the players, must step up if they want it bad enough.
