1 dead, 2 injured in wrong-way crash early Wednesday in south Lubbock – AOL

One person was killed and two others were injured in a wrong-way crash early Wednesday morning in south Lubbock.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a report of a reckless driver at East 50th Street and East Loop 289, according to the Lubbock Police Department. While the police were looking for the reckless driver, they learned that a pickup truck and a car had collided on the South Loop.

According to LPD, investigators believe Ricardo Ferreira was driving a car in the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes in the 3600 block of South Loop 289 when his car collided with Leland Taylor’s pickup, which he was driving eastbound.

Taylor, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Ferreira, 42, suffered serious injuries in the crash. He was taken by ambulance to Covenant Medical Center for treatment.

The passenger in the truck, Christine Gallemore, 29, was taken to University Medical Center with moderate injuries.

The eastbound lanes of South Loop 289 from Indiana Avenue to Slide Road were closed Wednesday morning as LPD’s Major Crash Unit investigated.
