Lubbock police are still searching for the mother of a baby who was reportedly found in a dumpster in East Lubbock on July 21.
The search began after a man called 911 to say he found a newborn baby boy in a container early Sunday morning in the 2700 block of East Third Street, prompting LPD to search for the baby’s mother.
“We are specifically asking for help locating her to check and verify her health and well-being,” Lubbock police said in a statement last week.
According to previous reports, the child was taken to a local hospital and will remain there until doctors determine he is healthy enough to be released.

AJ was able to obtain the LPD call log from the incident, which sheds some light on the event surrounding someone finding the baby in the dumpster.
A reporting party called 911 around 3:54 a.m. to report that someone had left a newborn baby at her house and told dispatch that the baby was fine, healthy and breathing.
Officers were dispatched three minutes later and arrived at the scene at 4:02 a.m., where officers met with the person who said he found the baby in a bag in the dumpster and that the baby was “covered in blood.”
CPS was then notified of the situation and EMS transported the baby to a local hospital.
At about 5:58 a.m., officials advised the hospital to be on alert for “any women who have problems related to births outside of a hospital setting or under suspicious circumstances.”
At 9:42 a.m., Covenant Medical Center said the hospital had several women with abdominal pain, but did not know if they were in labor. Women’s and Children’s UMC and CMC reported no eligible patients.
LPD informed AJ on Friday that they are still looking for the mother and that anyone with any information about the mother, the child or information leading to the child’s discovery is asked to call the Crime Line at 806-741-1000. You can remain anonymous.
