Birmingham International Airport was evacuated shortly after 1pm today due to a police investigation involving a suspicious vehicle, which prompted West Midlands Rail to issue travel warnings for passengers. The evacuation led to large crowds, including holidaymakers who were temporarily moved to the NEC.
The airport confirmed that while some departing flights were grounded, several arriving ones were diverted. By 3.30pm, Birmingham Airport announced that the investigation had concluded and operations would gradually return to normal. Passengers were advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight information.
Despite the incident, train services at Birmingham International Station remain fully operational. A spokesman for West Midlands Railway said: “Train services are still running as normal but we advise customers to travel safely during this situation.” By 3.30pm bus services had also been restored.
The safety of all passengers and staff was emphasized as a top priority during the incident. West Midlands Police confirmed that precautions had been taken to ensure everyone’s safety.
