A JCPenney store in Topeka is closing shutters. See when it closes its doors. – Yahoo! Voices

The JCPenney in Topeka is closing its doors later this year, the owners of West Ridge Mall announced Friday.

“JCPenney has announced the closing of approximately 120 stores in 2025, including the Topeka store,” Advisors Excel said in a news release.

Cody Foster and David Callanan will purchase the JCPenney building and renovate it to be the new face of West Ridge Mall.

Foster and Callanan own Advisors Excel, a financial advisor support company. Foster and Callanan closed on the purchase of West Ridge Mall for an undisclosed amount in September 2023.

“Advisors Excel has agreed to purchase the building and will use the space, which will include Advisors Excel office space on the second floor and a mix of restaurants and retail on the first floor.”

When will JCPenney close its doors in Topeka?

JCPenney will close its doors by May 25 of this year, the company told The Capital-Journal on Friday.

“The decision to close a store is never easy. We are grateful to our dedicated associates and the loyal customers who have shopped at our Topeka location,” the company said.

JCPenney filed for bankruptcy protection in 2020. and was bought by Simon Property and Brookfield Asset Management Inc., another mall owner, for $800 million, USA Today reported. Since then, locations across the country have been closing.
