Coastal storm brings tidal flooding to SE Washington, NE NC – AOL

Portsmouth, Wash. (Wavy) – Tidal flooding affected several areas of Hampton Roads Friday morning.

10 By Raven Payne On Your Side spoke with an employee at a clam company near Lynnhaven Inlet in Virginia Beach who said they’re used to seeing flooding like this, but that they’re still taking precautions by not opening the back deck.

“We don’t turn on the gas pumps,” he said. “That way there are no explosions.”

Another Virginia Beach resident shared a nonchalant attitude about the flooding. The unidentified man even shared a photo of the Lynnhaven entrance in 2010. in equivalent weather conditions.

“When I showed you that picture, that was northeast too,” he said. “So, I mean, we’ve had hurricanes over the years, but it’s mostly the Northwests [that] Do most of the damage. “

During flooding conditions, motorists are urged to avoid driving over hydroplaned areas and to drive slowly.

To no one’s surprise, the flood also found its way to the town of Rusalka. A 10-year-old viewer sent in a photo of a car stuck in flood waters at Pearl and Lygon Streets.

In Norfolk, 10 of Your Country’s Nick Broadway spoke to concerned resident, Emma Manzi about the flooding.

“I really think the flooding nuisance is getting worse,” Manzi said. “We don’t have a stop sign and we don’t have any signs that say ‘street flooding,’ so we often have a lot of cars getting hit when people try to back up.”

Michael Spencer, head of school at Hagyu School, shared that flooding rarely reaches the heights it did on Friday morning.

“Flooding is not typical, but for it to come out this high and this close to Brambleton Avenue is unusual,” Spencer said.

10 Your side even filmed ducks swimming over the sidewalk near the school property.

In Newport News, the fire department was dispatched to Buxton Avenue in the morning to assist with a car that was stuck due to overnight flooding.

Ferry service stopped

In addition, the Elizabeth River ferry service between Norfolk and Portsmouth was suspended due to the flooding. The service has since reopened.

Norfolk Open Parking Garage

The City of Norfolk opened the York Street Garage, located at U. U. U. U., to residents who want to move their vehicles to higher ground. York Street Garage will remain open until Sunday 17 November at 5pm

City officials are urging motorists not to drive through floodwaters. They also encourage the use of the Waze app, which can notify users of flooded streets.

Smithfield Bridge Flooding

Smithfield Police Posted on Facebook Friday morningsaying the bridge at Smithfield Station will be closed until around 1pm due to high water.

The outer shores of the ocean

On the Outer Banks, conditions were worse, with NC 12 temporarily closed on Ocracoke Island between Pony Pen and Point Beach due to the prevailing ocean. The road drain has since reopened.
