Four Birmingham men have been jailed for more than 20 years after trying to steal a Rolex watch in an armed robbery.

Andrew James, 42, was in a pub on Moseley Road in February last year when he spotted a man wearing a Rolex watch. James linked up with Abdulli Anderson, 21, who soon arrived with Dannetton Bailey-Warren, 21, and Enrico Henriques, 25.

They approached the man as he was leaving and asked for his watch. When he refused, he was threatened with a gun.

A security guard intervened and a scuffle ensued in which a gun was fired. The guard and two others were injured.

Police apprehended James leaving the crime scene and found another gun in his possession.

CCTV showed the other three fleeing in a stolen Peugeot, which was tracked down. Face recognition also helped identify them.

Detective Sergeant Lucy Mooney, from the Major Crime Team at West Midlands Police, said: “Luckily the bullet that hit the security guard in his ankle went straight through and he has recovered from the ordeal. The other two injured also do not have long-term injuries.

“The victim, although not injured, was threatened with a firearm and I do not underestimate the fear he felt.

“We are determined to bring anyone who owns a firearm to justice and seize these weapons that have no place on our streets.”

James, of Granville Square, Baillie-Warren, of Springbank Road, Anderson, of Bell Barn Road, and Hendricks, of Prince of Wales Lane, went on trial at Birmingham Crown Court on August 7 last year, but all four pleaded guilty guilty of attempted robbery on the second day.

James also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and cannabis, while Anderson also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and injury.

Andrew James and Abduli Anderson were each sentenced to six years and six months.

Dannetton Bailey-Warren and Enrico Hendricks were each jailed for three years and 11 months for their part in the attempted robbery.
