A suspect is in custody accused of stealing property from patients and employees at a Reno hospital.
In December, the Reno Police Department received multiple reports of stolen items at Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center on Lonely Lane.
After a lengthy investigation, police arrested 30-year-old Gabriel Ruiz, an employee of the hospital, on January 16. He was booked on several charges, including eight counts of using a credit card without consent, identity theft and possession of a stolen credit card.
The Reno Police Department said Ruiz had access to the victims’ personal information as part of his job. According to Ruiz’s LinkedIn profile, he is listed as a certified nursing assistant at Northern Nevada Health Systems.
A hospital spokesperson released the following statement about Ruiz’s arrest:
“When we became aware of the allegations, we immediately investigated and involved the authorities. We have extended our full cooperation to the Reno PD as they investigate this matter and are grateful for their support. The individual is no longer employed by Sierra Medical Center. ”
