Renault, Nevada (Colo) – teams from the town of Rino and the State Nevada spend Friday, preparing the roads for a coming storm by spraying brine on the roads before bad weather comes here.
“This is not easy for everything, this is a tool in our tool box that we can use when the conditions are appropriate,” said Andrew Lawrence of NDOT.
Salamura is a mixture of water, salt and sand. It is applied on the roads to prevent snow sealing on the flooring, which can create difficult conditions for driving
For the Nevada Ministry of Transport, their responsibility is to deal with brine on state roads such as highways, roads such as McCarran Blvd. And Kietzke Lane also fall under their jurisdiction, as they are technically state highways. The city of Rino rules the side streets within the city.
“We have 21 trucks with a plow into operation and we can bring them all, if necessary,” said Tim Hendricks of the city of Rino.
Hendricks says the city is well loaded with the salt sand mixture used to make the brine, telling us that they have 600 tonnes of it.
