Each season, Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic finds new ways to wow NBA fans. Could this be the year he convinces MVP voters to feel the same way?
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Doncic is the favorite to win the league’s MVP award at the end of the 2024-25 regular season. He came close to winning the award last year, finishing third in the voting after becoming the first player in NBA history to average at least 33 points (league-leading 33.9), nine assists (9.8 , second in the NBA) and nine rebounds ( 9.2).
As of Oct. 22, Doncic is +330 for the award, followed closely by Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at +380. Denver’s Nikola Jokic, who was named the 2023-24 MVP, ranks third at +430.
The regular season MVP isn’t the only award Doncic could be up for in the new campaign. FanDuel also lists Doncic among the favorites to win the league’s Clutch Player of the Year award, tied with Gilgeous-Alexander and Golden State’s Stephen Curry at +1,100.
Doncic is also a name to follow in the Finals MVP race, owning the sixth-best odds to claim the award at +1,200.
Speaking of the NBA Finals, the sportsbook also lists the Mavericks among the top contenders for the Larry O’Brien Trophy at the end of the season. After making the Finals earlier this summer, Dallas is currently tied with Denver for the fifth-best odds to win the title at +1,100.
The Mavericks are considered one of the strongest teams in the Western Conference, led by big names like Doncic and Kyrie Irving. The addition of Klay Thompson adds another dimension to the team’s offense, and the expected surge of Derek Lively II strengthens Dallas’ case.
Dallas officially opens its regular season against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night at the American Airlines Center.
