NCHSAA football: Ashbrook football’s Cameron Mayfield
After a 17-14 win over South Point, Ashbrook football defensive standout Cameron Mayfield discusses how the Green Wave did it.
The Big South 3A race remains front and center as the 2024 high school football season winds its way into the home stretch.
Week 10 begins with a virtual five-way tie atop the conference, with Ashbrook, Crest, Kings Mountain, Hunter Huss and South Point each having one league loss. Friday night should provide some clarity, four of those teams meet in games loaded with playoff implications.
After snapping a 17-game losing streak at South Point, Ashbrook looks to add another long streak to its collection when it travels to Kings Mountain. The Green Wave have lost seven in a row at Kings Mountain, a streak dating back to 2012.
Thanks to Ashbrook’s Friday night win over South Point, Crest is back in the Big South 3A title conversation. The same goes for Hunter Huss, who snapped a three-game hitting streak heading into Friday’s game with the Chargers.
