Storm éowyn: The railway between Lichfield and Birmingham blocked after strong winds – Express & Star

The West Midlands railway is signaling customers to break along the Cross City North line around 6am on Saturday (January 25).

The problem was initially caused by damage to the aboveground electrical conductors, which the national rail said later was resolved.

However, due to loss of power, it is said that some trains block the line. The interruption is expected to continue until 9.30 am.

Writing on its website, National Rail said: “Transport for the replacement of railway transport works between Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield Trent Valley in both directions.

“To help you with your trip, your ticket will be accepted without additional costs: Crosscountry Services between Birmingham New Stream and Tamworth / Stafford, National Express West Midlands between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent rant in both directions.”

Network Rail warned passengers of possible line interruptions on Friday night.

Posting in X, former Twitter, Network Rail Birmingham New Street wrote: “The effects of Storm éowyn were felt throughout the network today.

“Our teams work hard to remove fallen trees and repair above ground lines between Wolverhampton and Stafford and Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley, ready for the start of the service tomorrow.”

He comes after West Midlands was hit with strong winds on Friday, with a yellow time being issued to the Met Office region.

As a result, flights departing from the Birmingham Airport to Scotland and Ireland should be canceled and interrupted by the roads when a number of trees fell.

A second yellow meteorological ice warning, covering parts of the West Midlands, including the black side, is in place until 10am on Saturday.

The Met Service warned that there may be ice sections that would lead to “dangerous conditions” and possible ice spots on some roads, pavements and bicycle paths
