LEROY – The Fremont girls basketball team shook off a slow start after a long trip north to beat Pine River 72-24 on Friday.

“We came into this one expecting a tough game as Pine River had just beaten Beale City, who had beaten the No. 1 team in Division 3,” Fremont coach Peter Zerfas said.

The Packers trailed 12-8 after the first quarter.

“We had a lot of good looks in the first quarter, we just missed them,” Zerfas said. “Eventually, though, we got going.”

The scoring exploded for the Packers in the second quarter with a 23-5 run to give them a 31-17 halftime lead.

The Packers’ scoring onslaught continued in the second half as they fired off a 30-2 scoring advantage in the third quarter for a 61-19 lead with just one quarter left.

The Packers have outscored their opponents 149-68 in the last two games.

Mia Clemans had a productive night with a double-double of 21 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals, while Riley Chase had 14 points and seven rebounds. Taylor DeKuiper had nine points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists at point guard.

Taylor Johnson added 10 points, six steals and six rebounds. Khaila Noordyk had her best game since returning from an ACL injury with seven points and seven rebounds.

Fremont (10-2 overall, 6-0 WMC-Rivers) travels to Morley Stanwood on Tuesday.
