SUPERIOR, Wis. (Northern News Now) – Many eyes are on the state of Wisconsin, as it has historically been a major swing state.
On Tuesday morning, voters at the Douglas County Government Center said they saw some of the largest voter turnout on record.
Senior Mayor Jim Payne said the government center typically has a low turnout.
This year, however, seemed different as these were the longest lines he had seen since he was mayor.
Payne said what was even more surprising was that there was a line forming before noon.
“We expect people to line up before and after work,” Payne said. “But 11 a.m. and 10 a.m. you don’t usually see lines at that time of day.”
One voter even said it took him an hour to cast his vote.
However, it is impossible to know the outcome of the voter turnout until the results are counted.
“It’s possible we’ll see higher voter turnout on Election Day,” Payne said. “We won’t really know what it is until the polls close and we have official numbers. It has a lot of energy. There are a lot of people showing up.
Voters aren’t just concerned with the top of the list.
They also track a major U.S. Senate race where incumbent Tammy Baldwin faces Eric Hovde.
For some voters, they are focused on the state high school referendum on the ballot.
But many are talking about the presidential race deciding the direction of our country, and one voter says he’s on the Harris ticket.
“The last four years haven’t been bad, but before that I can’t do it again, I just can’t,” said voter Diana Waddle.
Now, both parties have mentioned the economy as a big concern, but one voter said he believes Trump has the right plan to fix it.
“Just taking care of the whole country as a whole, it really will. He will provide it,” said voter James Flake.
Sections will close at 8pm and if you are in line before then you will be able to vote but you must be in line.
