These two university campuses are working towards transformation.
West Chester University and Wilmington University are among local institutions undertaking landmark projects that are changing the face of college campuses across Philadelphia, Ryan Mulligan writes for Philadelphia Business Journal.
West Chester, the largest school in Pennsylvania’s public higher education system, has seen strong demand for campus living in recent years.
To meet that demand, new WCU President Lorraine Bernocki plans to install modular housing this spring for flex space, with a long-term plan to add between 500 and 800 new beds to the campus over the next five years.
In neighboring Delaware, the University of Wilmington is currently working on two landmark projects that will cost a total of $71 million and should be completed next year.
After admitting its first law class last fall, WilmU is currently constructing a $23 million, 52,000-square-foot law school building. Additionally, the school is also working on an 85,000-square-foot, $48 million Convocation Center, which will include a 2,000-seat auditorium and the university’s Criminal Justice Institute.
