VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — With early voting wrapping up over the weekend, election officials in Virginia Beach say about a third of the city’s registered voters have voted early.
“Our data looks like we have about 35 percent of the registered voters in the city of Virginia Beach, about a third voted early,” said Jeff Marks of the Virginia Beach Board of Elections.
Those votes were cast either by mail-in ballots or early voting at satellite locations around the city.

The voting method was so popular that many people who visited the Virginia Beach office were surprised to learn it was no longer held on Mondays.
“Just to get it out of the way because the last time we voted it was so crowded,” said Virgilio, a voter in Virginia Beach.
Virgilio was just one of many residents who went to Building 14 to try to vote early, only to be greeted by a neon sign saying they would have to vote on Tuesday.
Election officials believe that because of the early turnout before Election Day, lines may not be as long throughout the day.

“In the peak periods, in the morning and later in the day certainly yes, but I think during the day I expect things to go smoothly given the fact that a lot of voters have already voted,” Marks said.
As precinct captains stocked up to keep things running smoothly Tuesday, voters are being asked to help keep things running by coming to the polls with their ID cards.
If not, you may receive a provisional ballot.

“There are certain procedures for ways you can vote without it, but it will be a temporary ballot and I would say to people that if you want to make sure your vote is counted without any problems, carry your ID,” Marx said.
An advance ballot means the local election commission will have to decide whether the vote is valid, which happens days after the election.
An advance ballot can also be given to someone registering on the same day.

Precinct 14 has seen many people vote in the past few weeks, but it is not one of the 108 precincts in the city on Election Day.
If you still have a postal ballot, you can leave it in the secretary’s box until 7pm on Tuesday.
Otherwise, the ballot will have to be mailed.
