Cheyenne, Wyoming – High wind advisories are in effect today for multiple regions of Wyoming, creating hazardous travel conditions on interstate highways, especially for high-profile vehicles. Winds in some areas reached speeds of up to 70 mph, making Interstate 80 and Interstate 25 especially dangerous for light or tall vehicles such as trailers and campers.
According to the National Weather Service, gusts up to 65 mph are expected in areas like Arlington and Elk Mountain on I-80, which will continue until 2 PM MST today. The conditions pose a significant risk to commuters and motorists are urged to use caution, especially those with larger vehicles susceptible to strong crosswinds.
Meanwhile, the Bordeaux region along I-25, between Chugwater and Wheatland, faces similar threats. Winds there could reach 70 mph by about 5 p.m. These wind speeds can produce sudden gusts capable of moving vehicles across the lanes, posing a significant hazard to tractor trailers.
In the Ferris and Seminoe Mountains near Rawlins, conditions are slightly less severe, but still cautious, with winds up to 60 mph lasting until 11 am. Travelers are advised to avoid these areas if possible or postpone travel until the high wind warnings expire.
The broader forecast for Wyoming over the next five days shows winds gradually diminishing by late Wednesday, with temperatures expected to range between the mid-30s and mid-50s throughout the week. However, travelers should stay informed through updates from the National Weather Service as high wind advisories and warnings remain in effect across much of the state today.
