A takeout Mexican restaurant has officially put Lubbock on the map for taco lovers after Texas Monthly featured the family business on its Top 50 Tacos list.
Jose R. Rallat, Texas Monthly’s taco editor, hit the road and drove some 14,000 miles to round up the state’s 50 best tacos. Among the big-city listings was Lubbock’s own Jimenez Tortilleria y Taqueria / Jiménez y Friends, 4606 34th St.
“Their marble cake, a swirled frosting interpretation of the Mexican bakery favorite known as pink cake, is moist with a nice crumb,” Ralat points out in the article. “But if you’re coming for something spicy, go for the Three Amigos plate, which highlights a variety of tacos de guisado: a rich carne guisada; pork in ground pork chili Colorado; and juicy picadillo with potatoes.”
With a selection of sweet and savory offerings, the restaurant is a community favorite. The restaurant thanks the community for its support.
“Being on this Top 50 Tacos list is a huge honor and we can’t wait to move forward with all these phenomenal taco shops and a big congratulations to everyone on the Top 50 Tacos list,” the business said on social media. “Our biggest mission with our store is to put out the best product we can produce, and that’s a true testament to all our hard work, to the 4am in the morning and the time we leave at 11pm”
People can visit Jimenez Tortilleria y Taqueria from Wednesday to Sunday.
The month brought numerous accolades to Lubbock, including Monomyth being named the nation’s No. 1 Best Independent Cafe by USA Today and AirBnB, promoting the city as a top 10 winter destination.
