David Gilmour got the rare pleasure of being a proud dad who got to play with his daughter as he and Romany performed their latest single Later… with Jools Holland.
It’s a time-honoured tradition for most UK acts to perform on the show with their new music, much like when he was on Top Of The Pops, and now rock legend David Gilmour can enjoy the moment with his daughter as they perform together “Between Two Points”, with David on guitar and Romani on lyre. The haunting song ends with a smooth guitar solo from Gilmour, who shares a smile with Romany at the end, warming the heart of any rock fan alive.
Luck And Strange is Gilmour’s first solo album in 10 years and features a cover of the Montgolfier Brothers’ “Between Two Points” sung by his daughter Romani. Gilmore, David gave fans a behind-the-scenes look with a behind-the-scenes mini-documentary directed by Gavin Elder,

The single was co-written by Gilmore’s wife Polly Samson.
“The music just exploded one day. It was so exciting to come across this channel,” said Gilmore. “Polly gave me a beautiful poem about our wedding anniversary that was sitting on the desk right next to me, so I took it and sang it to the song to hear how it would sound in words. I played it to Polly and she said, “Great, great, I’ll have to play with it a bit.” So she added a couple of verses and there it was – very by accident.
David Gilmour should have been a proud papa with the single featuring his daughter Romani Gilmour, as ‘Between Two Points’ also came with a video giving the two their on-screen debut as a duo. The album will have a deluxe edition that will include bonus tracks, a hardcover book by Thames & Hudson featuring photographs taken by Polly Samson.
David Gilmour released the video for the single “The Piper’s Call” months ago, with the video showing Gilmour recording the album, which took place over five months in Brighton and London and was produced by David and Charlie Andrew, who worked with ALT -J and Marika Hackman.
“We invited Charlie over to the house, so he came over and listened to some demos, and he said things like, ‘Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo in there?’ and ‘Are they all fading out? Can’t some of them just finish?”. He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not afraid in any way, and I love that. This is so good for me because the last thing you want is for people to just obey you. David said.
The album features eight new songs featuring Guy Pratt & Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd and Steve DiStanislao on drums, Rob Gentry & Roger Eno on keyboards with string and choral arrangements by Will Gardner. There’s even a special feature on the title track by Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright, which was recorded in 2007 at a gig at David’s house.
