Sport has a way of teaching invaluable life lessons – building a character, promoting teamwork and strengthening the relationships within a community. In the Renault area, these values have formed some really remarkable athletes from different eras, whose achievements continue to inspire.
Patch united with T-Mobile to project five athletes of the award, whose achievements have left a lasting imprint on our community. Although this list is just a momentary photo, there are countless others who have helped to shape the rich sports culture in our area.
1. Luke Babbit (basketball)
Growing up to Renault after moving from Ohio at the age of nine, Luke Babbit became a local basketball icon in Galena High School, breaking the Nevada preparation record with 2 941 points. He stayed close to the college college at the University of Nevada and an average of over 21 points per game as a sophomore before announcing the NBA draft for 2010. Selected 16th, Babbit Game at the NBA for Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, Miami Heath and Atlanta Hawks. Known for his smooth blow and flexibility of 6’9, he spent nearly a decade in professional basketball before retiring in 2018.
2. Shannon Bahke (Ski)
Raised near the slopes of Lake Taho just outside Renault, Shannon Bach is a two-time Olympic medalist who has become one of the best skiers of the free style of the United States. Her 12-year career in the American ski team includes seven World Cup victories, 26 graduation on the podium and three Olympic appearances-planted by a silver medal at Salt Lake City Games in 2002 and Bronze in Vancouver 2010. Although she is facing In front of numerous injuries, she demonstrates remarkable perseverance, eventually establishing her own business and becomes a sought after motivational speaker. Today, Bahke uses his platform to inspire others through stories of sand and durability by honoring its roots in North Nevada in the process.
3. Brent Boyd (Football)
Defender of former NFL players and a pioneer voice of the concussion of awareness, Brent Boyd has strong ties to the Renault area through his intercessor work after football in North Nevada. Prepared by Minnesota Vikings in 1980 outside the Ucla, 6’3 ”the offensive guard played six seasons in the league, suitable in 59 games. After retiring, Boyd became seen in raising awareness of the long-term effects of head trauma, testified before Congress, and supports better benefits for retired athletes.
4. Julia Mancuso (Ski))
Julia Mancuso climbed the international star as the most beautiful American women’s alpine skier in the Olympic history, with four medals in three winter games. The region-born Reno-Taho broke out on stage by winning gold in the giant slalom of the 2006 Olympics, followed by silver medals in Vancouver (2010) and bronze in Sochi (2014). Known for carrying the podium tiara, Mancuso balances the fierce competitiveness with an infectious, free -minded personality. After retiring, she deals with entrepreneurial endeavors, started a podcast and embraced motherhood as she continued her active lifestyle between mountains and surf.
5. Chris Car (Football)
Chris Carr, a graduate of McQueen High School in Renault, forged an impressive NFL career as an angle and a return specialist. Unmanaged in 2005, he made his name in special teams with Oklland Raiders before collaborating the Titans, Ravens, Charges and Saints. Known for its speed and perseverance, Carr has accumulated over 6,200 yards and contributed to key plays in protective protective fields. After retiring, he moved to a successful legal career, winning his degree in law and working as a senior lawyer.
