5 Natural Spots in Talahassi that will make you forget that you are in Florida – its campus

This article was written by a student writer from her campus in FSU head.

So, you stayed in the country for school. I understand it. The college had to be my escape from the heat in Florida, crowded beaches and flat landscapes.

Desperately wanted to escape to a small college of liberal arts in the northeast or the Pacific northwest and live my Dusk Fantasies in a small town surrounded by trees. When I committed myself to FSU, I decided that I gave up my dreams of living in a place with many natural beauty, but I quickly found myself wrong.

While I’m from South Florida, I was not ready for some of the natural landmarks I would find in my college. From a land lover and a cold weather enthusiast, here are five natural places in Talahasi that will make you forget that you are in Florida!

Lichgate on a high road

Lihgate was the first gem of Talahassi I found. He recommended me from a friend, I had a little idea what to expect. Driving north on High Road, a quick turn leads to the paradise of this tree lover. The trees harvested through the trees is a great bizarre oak – calculated at 300 years! Behind the tree is a fabulous cottage surrounded by green and brown bush and vines.

Other small gems around the property are a wooden mailbox filled with letters and charms, a stone maze, garden gnomes and picnic tables. It is free for the public, but please respect the beautiful property! And if you are interested in how this hidden fairytale place became, you can read everything about the history of the Lichgate website!

Alfred B. Maclay Gardens

Alfred B. McLase Gardens is among the most beautiful and well-known natural reserves of Talahasi. Situated on Thomasville Road, the park has a secret garden, a brick path, an assortment of flora, a tour and my favorite, the reflection pool.

The park is open from 8am to dusk and the entrance costs $ 6 per vehicle. The park is perfect for a day off in nature, birthday or picnic for Valentine’s Day! The website lists events annually such as a gardens tour in May, scare, moon over McLei-jais in the gardens and Christmas of Camellia in December.

If you are looking for asylum from the bustle of the City and Campus College, you will find incomparable peace and solitude at Maclay Gardens!

Dorothy B. Fur Park

Also on Thomasville Road is a hidden gem of natural beauty – Dorothy B. Foven Park. For the first time, I came across him during the holidays, when his festive light show, free for the public, made him feel like a winter side of miracles. But the park is just as stunning throughout the year! It has lush gardens, a charming mansion home, Lanai and picturesque pedestrian paths. Open every day from 7 to 23 hours, this is the perfect place for a peaceful walk, picnic or even a picturesque meeting.

Mission Park San Louis

San Louis Mission Park is one of my favorite pedestrian places in Talahasi. With many paths, a dog park, a playground and a magnificent lake for combining wood, this is the perfect escape from everyday stressors.

Whether you are looking for a quiet stand -alone hike, a picturesque place for a magazine or a fun trip with friends (including four legs), San Luis Mission Park is your new favorite place. There I go to slow down, breathe in the fresh air of the trees and forget that I am in Florida.

Lake Ella

Maybe I’m biased because of my black dog craze. However, Ella Lake offers much more than everyone’s favorite cafe. The lake, located in North Monroe, is surrounded by a contour of 0.8 miles with benches, gazebo and shops along the way.

The villas in Lake Ella are a collection of small companies ranging from vintage shops to ice cream shops and restaurants. Lake Ella is my favorite place to get steps, listen to music and decompine myself from my tasks. So, take coffee, take a stroll through the lake and enjoy the nature that the City of College can offer!

The process of applying to college taught me a priceless lesson: to bloom where I am planted. Although schools in Florida were not initially on my dream list, my dedication to find beauty everywhere turned out to be rewarding.

The choice of FSU was the best decision I have ever made, which allows me to thrive academically as I perceive my love for nature. I hope you are inspired to find beauty in our college city – because there is something to look for!
