Ahead of the festive celebrations, Tesco Irvine Riverway Extra has appealed to shoppers to support a toy collection so that families whose children might not otherwise receive a gift don’t miss out on the big day.
People from across the community responded enthusiastically to the campaign, with 250 brand new toys being donated to Women’s Aid – putting a smile on many children’s faces at Christmas.
Claire De Silva, Head of Communities at Tesco, said: “We really can’t thank our customers enough for their kind contribution to this great cause.
“Throughout the year, our stores support children and their community, and local people are sure to support us in our efforts.
“So once again we are grateful to the people of Irvine for showing that the magic of Christmas is very much alive and well.”
“They have made many children so happy at a time of year that can be difficult for some families, so again thank you very much for your support.”
The toy donation campaign took place in stores across the UK in December, with more than 125,000 items given away.
In addition to the toy collection, Tesco has donated £25,000 to The Salvation Army to support its ongoing efforts to provide essential services and support to vulnerable families over the festive season.
