“We have a great speed in our center and so many assets to work with,” Skoules said.
He specifically pointed out the opening of Overlook Walk, a $ 70 million multi -stage park built on the Alaska Road Viaduct, demolished in 2019. According to DSA, pedestrians’ volume during the first week of the park is 140% compared to foot traffic In the same area in the same week in 2023
Scholes said 88 New Street Level businesses were opened in 2024, with 3,000 residential units added.
He said more residential units are currently being built than every city west of Chicago.
“Now it’s time to put it in another equipment. To hire a new retail trade, to hire office tenants, to welcome the locals, which is so critical of the health of every city center,” he told King 5. “Locals.” They love this center.
But Scholes admitted that there were still challenges in front of the city.
“We have to make sure that our streets are safe and healthy for all. We see a reduction in crime with violence, less people who use drugs and die from drugs on the streets,” he said. “And we have many vacancies to fight, but we see more companies open than near and we have a number of new businesses, restaurants and retailers who will announce their openings here in the next few months.”
In his address to the audience, Scholes emphasized additional development along the coastline, including Elliott Bay’s connections.
He added that nearly 100 conventions were booked this year, which is expected to bring out 370,000 visitors in the area of the city center at the top of the traditional summer tourist jump.
While the DSA and the city authorities continue to host the 2026 World Cup, Seattle is also preparing for the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.
“It’s a year of momentum and progress,” Skoules concluded.
