Firefighters from Birmingham were called to the wooded area just before 8am to a report of smoke. They arrived to find the sedan engulfed.

After putting out the fire, they found two bodies inside. Both were burned beyond recognition.

The cause of death was not immediately clear and an autopsy by the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office is pending.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Birmingham police arson investigators also responded to the scene.
