Chesapike firefighters fought two separate barn fires “on the challenging night for local firefighters.” About 40 goats have not survived one of the fires.

Chesapeake, Washington – Chesapike’s Fire Department was summoned to two separate barn fires on Ballahack Road in the village Chesapik about what they called a “challenging” Friday night.

The first fire was reported at 8:09 pm in the Ballahack Road block 800. When crews arrived, they found a 100×100 barn, strongly involved in flames. The fire is under control for about 30 minutes and there are no reports of injuries. The fire department said they believe this barn was used to store hay.

Shortly before 9:00 pm, a second fire broke out in the Ballahack Road block of 1800. This barn, owned by Hidden Acres Ranch, was housed approximately 40 goats. The fire department said “most animals did not survive the fire.” The fire was put under control within an hour.

At 11 pm, the fire department was working for a major overhaul of what was left of the structures and extinguished hot spots. The service of the Marshal Chesapik is investigating the causes of the two fires and at this point do not believe the incidents are related.

The Chesapik Fire Service received assistance from the Moyock Volunteer Fire Service, the Virginia Beach Fire Service and the North North West Fire Service and thanked them for their “invaluable automatic and mutual assistance for help.”
