16-year-old killed in fatal crash in Madison Heights, VSP – WSET says

Officials have released more information about the fatal crash that left one person dead in Madison Heights Saturday afternoon.

ABC13 previously reported the crash, which happened around 2 p.m. According to Virginia State Police, a car crashed into a utility pole on Possum Island Road, killing one person in the crash.

In an update Monday morning, VSP gave more details about what happened.

“A 2024 Kia ​​Forte was traveling southbound on Possum Island Road heading toward the intersection with Millennium Way when the Forte lost control, went off the right side of the road, struck a mailbox and then a utility pole,” VSP said . “Forte then rolled over.”

Police said a 16-year-old boy was a passenger in the vehicle and was thrown from the car before he died at the scene. The VSP said he was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the car was identified by VSP as 34-year-old Lucas S. Fretwell. Officials said Fretwell suffered minor injuries in the crash and was also not wearing a seat belt.

“Charges are pending,” VSP said, before adding that the crash was still under investigation.
