12-year-old boy with terminal brain cancer sworn in as honorary deputy chief – WAGM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) – A new member of the Birmingham Police Department was sworn in Friday afternoon.

Devarjay “DJ” Daniel was welcomed as an honorary deputy chief by police officers from the Birmingham Police Department and 33 other law enforcement agencies.

“What I say every day is – believe in God, take care, be positive, be good to other people, pray for children who have cancer and don’t be mean to people,” the 12-year-old said.

The Houston, Texas DJ was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer at age 6 and has since undergone 13 surgeries. He always wanted to be a police officer.

DJ’s dream continues to come true as he is sworn in by various law enforcement agencies around the world. As of now, it has been sworn in by around 905 agencies.
