1 person in custody after police chase in downtown Lubbock Wednesday night – Yahoo! Voices

One person remains in custody following a police chase Wednesday night in downtown Lubbock that left one person injured.

According to Lubbock police, an officer witnessed a passenger vehicle make an unsafe lane change, nearly hitting the patrol car around 6:51 p.m. in the 1500 block of University Avenue.

The police officer then initiated a traffic stop. The driver pulled into a parking lot on the Texas Tech University campus; however, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop, prompting the officer to initiate a pursuit.

The driver then returned to the middle of University Avenue, collided with another car and continued south through a hotel parking lot before crashing into a fence.

The driver — identified as 22-year-old Xavier Borunda — and a 16-year-old passenger fled the scene on foot.

Borunda was taken into custody with minor gunshot wounds located nearby, according to LPD. The 16-year-old was also taken into custody a short time later in the 2000 block of 100th Street and transported to University Medical Center with moderate injuries.

The driver of the Borunda car that was hit was also taken to UMC with moderate injuries.

According to LPD, Borunda was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center and charged with drinking while intoxicated, eluding in a vehicle and on foot, failure to stop and render aid, illegal carrying of a weapon and a traffic warrant.

LCDC records show Borunda’s bond on each charge equals $26,500.

According to LPD, the investigation is still ongoing.
