1 in custody after ACU bus crashes, 4 injured in Lubbock after Texas Tech game – AOL

One person is in custody and charged with DWI after crashing into the Abilene Chrisitan University football team bus and injuring four people Saturday night.

According to Lubbock Police, at 11:33 p.m., officers were helping direct traffic at the intersection of Marsha Sharp Highway and University Avenue as the ACU team bus was leaving Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock after a game against Texas Tech.

Then a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Parker Young, traveling southbound on University, disregarded the direction of travel and collided with the bus. This forced the bus into another vehicle in the left turn lane trying to head north.

Four people from the bus were transported to UMC with moderate injuries, according to LPD. According to a statement from ACU football posted on social media, one student, two coaches and the bus driver were injured in the crash.

“We are grateful to Texas Technical Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt, their team physician Dr. Michael Fee and all first responders for their assistance,” the statement read.

Young was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center, where he was charged with DWI and is awaiting bond to be set, according to LCDC records.

Early Sunday morning, Texas Tech Athletics released the following statement about the crash:

“Red Raider Nation’s thoughts and prayers are with our friends at ACU and those who may have been injured in tonight’s incident. Our administration has been in constant contact with ACU staff since their departure and will assist where needed.”
