Scottsdale, Arizona – at least one person was killed and four others were injured after two planes collided on the track on Monday afternoon at Scotsdale Airport in the Southwestern US in Arizona, authorities said.

“Learjet 35a diverted from the track after landing and crashed into a business aircraft Gulfstream 200 on the ramp at Scottsdale Municipal Airport in Arizona around 14:45 local time on Monday,” the US federal aviation said.

It seems that the left main landing on the arriving aircraft failed, resulting in the collision, said Kelly Queester, aviation planning and coordinator of information states at the Airport in Scottsdale.

At a press conference, the captain of the fire service of Scottsdale Dave Folio said five people participated in the crash. One person was declared dead at the place, while the other two were taken to local traumatic centers in critical condition. Another person needed medical attention, but the treatment also delayed the fifth individually refused treatment.

Officials said the US National Transport Safety Council was investigating the crash.

Queester said four people were on the arriving plane that came from Austin, Texas, and one man was in the parked plane.

The track is closed and will remain closed “for the foreseeable future,” Queester added.

Scotsdale Mayor Lisa Borovski said in a statement that she was closely monitoring the situation and maintained a connection with the airport, police and federal agencies.

The airport is a popular Jets center that enter and exit the Phoenix area, especially during the big sports weekends. The collision comes after three major aviation disasters in the last two weeks.
