Tallahassee, Florida (WCTV) – nearly seven decades after the Elily Spencer, the famous Talahasi teacher, finally received a tombstone.

The Florida Civil Rights Museum revealed the marker on Friday at a ceremony with some of its descendants present.

One of these family members was Dearmaas Graham, Spencer’s great-Pleman. Before the ceremony, the anchor Jacob Murfey showed the grave for the first time.

Graham is a school administrator in St. Jones County, Florida. He told Murphy that he did not know much about his great-grandmother at all before the Florida Museum of Civil Rights had contacted him a few months ago.

He has since been blown up after learning about all Spencer made at a time when they had countless barriers so that black women can succeed.

Among the many achievements that stand out of Graham are Spencer’s time as director of Bond Elementary in the 1940s, as a state champion basketball coach and as a champion-level tennis player.

Set up today at 6:40 to watch Murphy shows Graham a tombstone on his alert in an extended version of their interview at the Oklland cemetery.
